The primary method of nitrogen generation involves the separation of nitrogen from air using Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) or Membrane Separation Technology (MST).

Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA):

Air Compression: Ambient air is first compressed to a higher pressure.

Purification: The compressed air is then passed through filters to remove particles, oil, and moisture.

Adsorption: The clean air enters an adsorption tower filled with adsorbent material (such as zeolite or activated carbon), which selectively adsorbs oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other impurities, leaving behind nitrogen-rich gas.

Pressure Swing: The process is cyclic, with alternating adsorption and desorption stages achieved by changing the pressure in the adsorption towers.

Membrane Separation Technology (MST):

Air Compression and Filtration: Similar to PSA, ambient air is compressed and purified.

Membrane Separation: The clean air is then fed into hollow fiber membranes, where nitrogen molecules, due to their smaller size and lower solubility in the membrane material, permeate through faster than oxygen and other gases.

Nitrogen Collection: The nitrogen-rich permeate is collected and further processed if necessary to achieve the desired purity.
