The gas storage tank plays a core and multiple role in the air compression system, and its role and importance are reflected in the following aspects:

1  Buffer and Stable Air Pressure: The gas storage tank provides a large volume space to absorb these pulsations and can instantly replenish or absorb excess gas, effectively preventing severe fluctuations in system pressure.

2  Storage of compressed air: The air storage tank is like an "air reservoir" that stores compressed air during the operation of the air compressor to meet short-term high flow demands.

3  Reduce the number of starts and stops of the air compressor: The presence of a gas storage tank increases the system's ability to store gas, slowing down the rate of pressure drop and significantly extending the time interval for the air compressor to stop/unload.

4  Cooling air and separating condensed water: The air is naturally cooled inside the tank. As the temperature drops, a large amount of water vapor in the air condenses into liquid water. The initial separation of moisture and some impurities provides a better foundation for subsequent deep purification (drying, filtration).

5  As a backup gas source (short-term emergency): In the event of a malfunction or brief power outage of the air compressor, the compressed air stored in the air storage tank can provide emergency gas source for critical gas points in a short period of time, supporting equipment to complete necessary safe operations or orderly shutdown.

6  Optimizing system design: Reasonably configuring the capacity of the gas storage tank can reduce the requirement for instantaneous displacement of the air compressor, allowing the selection of smaller specifications (lower cost) air compressors to meet the average gas demand, thereby reducing the initial investment cost of the system.

A well-designed and appropriately sized gas storage tank is the foundation for efficient, stable, reliable, and economical operation of an air compression system. Neglecting the role of gas storage tanks or selecting them improperly can lead to low system efficiency, frequent failures, and high operating costs.
